Chatham Square

Built in 2005

This community is built on the grounds of the former Samuel Madden Homes, a public housing project that was owned by the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA).  Chatham Square was built under the HOPE VI program established by HUD, which has the goal of replacing distressed public housing with new, mixed income communities.  The site features a wonderful Old Town location—just three blocks to the Potomac River and King Street, and a short distance to Washington, DC.

Chatham Square features 100 market rate townhomes and 52 subsidized rental homes. The homes are seamlessly integrated so that it is hard to differentiate the subsidized and market rate homes.  All homes are designed in a colonial style that blends with Old Town Alexandria’s historic streetscapes.
